Each party steals so many articles of faith from the other, and the candidates spend so much time making each other’s speeches, that by the time election day is past there is nothing much to do save turn the sitting rascals out and let a new gang in.
–H.L. Mencken, American journalist, cultural critic
I have always been fascinated by the cultural phenomenon of coining new words following some major event or other. Once a coined word enters common usage, it becomes known as a neologism.
Bluenami is the hip new neologism, coined in the wake of the historic (some say catastrophic) sweeping victory of the Democrats over the Republicans in the recent U.S. midterm elections. It combines the words Blue (Wave), which predicted an overwhelming Democratic victory, and tsunami, which emphasised its crushing nature.
While the Democrats and their supporters gush with expectant pride over their bluenami, the Republicans and their enablers have descended into a dark, acrimonious meltdown. A mountain of blame is up for grabs, and they’re slinging it around vigorously.
Vice President J.D. Vance posted a long tweet in which he admitted that
The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night…
Duh!
While he didn’t fully disclose how Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu strong-armed or hoodwinked America into the war with Iran, he did leave a rather revealing 4-point reason that alluded to this as part of the tweet:
- End the war
- Focus on cost of living/inflation
- Put America First
- Change our relationship to Israel
I won’t repeat anything President Trump said because his credibility is less than zero at this point. Besides, what comes out of the incumbent President’s mouth is six parts gibberish and 4 parts outlandish lies.
Meanwhile, Republican acolyte Laura Loomer is busy sharing her ten cents’ worth of slavish bigotry in a slew of rambling tweets because, as usual, she feels compelled to keep up with the Trumpses. One of which is this howler below:

Like many other Republicans who just have to deal out blame, she’s not quite sure if the socialists or Muslims are to blame. Instead, she covers both bases by laying blame in an uneducated and bigoted fashion by conflating socialist democracy with communism and Muslims with jihadists. Yes, she didn’t forget to throw in the classic sharia law scare, too. In other posts, she labels Muslims as the Muslim Brotherhood.
I could go on and on about the batshit-crazy allegations that other Republicans are making, but what’s the point?
Sadly, though, Laura may be right about America being over. It would be if those who did the easy bit and voted Blue are content to sit on that vote for another two years and not make the Democrats earn it.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I have to repeat that the Democrats are not to be trusted with this magnanimous mandate. They have a track record of prioritising both personal and corporate interests.
That distrust is not new. Even before corporate and foreign (Israeli) money corrupted Democrat and Republican politicians, there were those unconvinced about their appetite to serve the people. One such person was Eugene Victor Debs, an American socialist activist and trade unionist who was also a five-time candidate for U.S. President. In a campaign speech for the Socialist Party of America in 1904, he observed the following:
The Republican and Democratic parties, or, to be more exact, the Re-
publican-Democratic Party, represents the capitalist class in the class
struggle. They are the political wings of the capitalist system and such dif-
ferences as arise between them relate to spoils and not to principles.
With either of these parties in power one thing is always certain and
that is that the capitalist class are in the saddle and the working class under
the saddle.
Already back in 1904, it was clear that the traditional Republican-Democrat choice voters were being herded into was a sham. The fact that the sham persisted for so long is remarkable. It’s either a testament to these politicians’ ingenuity or an indictment of the electorate.
Isn’t it time to change that bleak inference?
Disclaimer:
Although my readers haven’t asked me why I care so much about America, I think it’s fair to assume people might think I hate Americans and their country. I can honestly say it’s neither. It’s just America’s imperialist foreign policy which bothers me… a great deal.
Perhaps ordinary Americans have little (or insufficient) idea of how much pain and suffering it causes around the world. Just yesterday, another lovely South African was asked this question on X, and this is how she responded:

Yes, because we DO care about Americans, but we also DON’T like being bombed or having our resources stolen.
