I think it was at some point, a month or so after Israel’s military response to the October 7th attacks by Hamas insurgents in 2024. I’ve been questioning reality every moment since then, and not for the reasons you may suspect.
I can admit now that up to that point, I was geopolitically as naive as one could be. My understanding of the power dynamics in the world at large, and particularly the “conflict” in the Middle East, was so egregiously uninformed.
I couldn’t believe how, apart from a handful of governments and media outlets, practically everyone applauded, supported, and manufactured elaborate, yet disingenuous, justifications and rationalisations for the violent, frequently depraved, criminal military response by the Israeli armed forces as they indiscriminately attacked and ruthlessly killed innocent Palestinian civilians, while laying waste to every imaginable structure, including hospitals, homes, schools, places of worship, and even the means of food production.
This level of inhumanity is not limited to the media and governmental organisations only. It extends to ordinary citizens of every country worldwide. We have accepted this new reality as normal and carry on like rabid rats, scurrying to make our place in this heartless society as comfortable as possible.
Something happened that brought out the absolute worst in humanity, and it continues to this day, as they all double down, rehashing old justifications while desperately trying to conjure new ones. Yes, there are various groups and individuals trying valiantly to thwart this abomination, but the combined forces against them are far too strong.
At the forefront of this assault on humanity, and indeed, civilisation itself, lie two of the most evil men in this planet’s history: Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu. They are, of course, ably backed by greedy billionaires, loathsome lackeys, game groupies and cushioned by millions of ordinary, yet gullible people.
Have we somehow crept into the Twilight Zone, or have we finally given up on our faculties of understanding, reasoning and empathy?
