You’re going on a cross-country trip. Airplane, train, bus, car, or bike?
I planned this local road trip more than a month ago to commemorate my upcoming 60th birthday.
I decided to keep it local because the outside world was an insane place at the time, with two warmongering lunatics in particular threatening to make my birthday more explosive than it needed to be.
Since then, hostilities have, in fact, broken out in the Middle East, leaving us clinging to our piddling plans while thousands of innocent people get slaughtered at the whim of two seriously deranged individuals.
I am unfortunately committed to a multitude of accommodation bookings and face the prospect of steep fuel price hikes once I depart at the end of the month.
I’m hoping sanity will prevail, even if it seems like a selfish wish so that I can enjoy my trip.
Sniff!
As you know, the world has never been any different. Massacre and terror, invasions, rape and torture are ingrained in our history. I wonder what would make a difference? Religion has only made things worse, democracy hasn’t helped much. Where are we left?

Absolutely! Isn’t it ironic that the two things that must never be mixed, religion and politics, are always conspiring together to destroy all of humanity.
