El teu nom Palestina (Your name Palestine)

Lluís Llach, one of the artists featured on my Tidal music streams for September this year, is probably not very well-known outside of Spain.

Llach is a Catalan singer-songwriter who was a preeminent member of the Nova Cançó (New Song) movement in Spain, which defied the brutal fascist dictator Franco, who ruled from 1939 to 1975. Llach lived in exile in Paris and returned to Spain after Franco died in 1975.

I was initially introduced to L’Estaca, the song Llatch is most famous for, as it is a struggle song and unofficial anthem for the Catalan Independence Movement. Thereafter, I discovered Palestina, in the same tradition, which is an ode to the Palestinian struggle for self-determination.

The song in Spanish is very moving. The lyrics below are translated into English, but don’t lose any poetic value:
