I’m not given to fantasizing about the improbable, so I’m not even going to try.
But you know who can?
The Make America Great Again (MAGA) cult. They are breathing examples of people living the alternate life; the alternate reality.
And having fertile imaginations is not a prerequisite. It might even be an impediment.
All that’s really required by them is an uncritical mind and a servile or sycophantic attitude.

I totally agree. There is a lot of blinkered thinking in governments, and MAGA is the best example. It is heartbreaking for those caught up in it.
