The US and Israel are cannibalizing the rule of law, aiming to replace it with their rule of lawlessness enabled by global predatory elites.

–Francesca Albanese, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories

In my previous post, a British journalist showcased how low Western media (WM) has sunk, prioritising vested interests over the public.

I briefly touched on how the BBC, as a major member of WM, is also complicit. Declassified UK, however, bucks the trend according to their YouTube channel, by investigating Britain’s military and intelligence agencies, its most powerful corporations, and their impact on human rights and the environment.

Editor of Declassified UK, Phil Miller, recently interviewed Francesca Albanese, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, following her most recently released report about the media’s complicity in the genocide in Gaza. The interview was specifically about the BBC’s pro-Israeli bias in reporting on the matter. You can watch it here.

Albanese’s report, the fourth in a series since the genocide began, was presented to the United Nations Human Rights Council on October 28, 2026. Titled Truth under the rubble: media in the time of genocide, it covered a wide range of issues relating to media complicity in the genocide.

This is a summary of her report, which is available here.

This report examines how the destruction of truth has become integral to the
destruction of a people. It identifies three interconnected patterns: the elimination of Palestinian media workers – through killing, maiming, arbitrary detention, torture,
intimidation and the systematic labelling of them as “terrorists” – to suppress the
documentation of crimes; the construction of an information regime in Israel through media restrictions, censorship, propaganda, hate speech, genocidal incitement and denial; and the role of influential international media and digital platforms in marginalizing Palestinian voices and reproducing Israeli narratives, normalizing legal distortions, which ultimately legitimized atrocities. Together, these practices have not merely accompanied genocide but have facilitated its commission and obstructed accountability. Some aspects of this assault on truth might be described as “mediacide.”

The report highlights the term mediacide (the systematic destruction of the media’s public function). I’m certain it will become an important word in future legal proceedings to uncover “the abandonment of fundamental journalistic ethics” and the “assault on truth and suppression of freedom of speech.“
