I’ve been hooked on movies since I was a little boy, tearing off from school to catch the afternoon movie at the local cinema. Except for the first movie on my list, the others are in no particular order.
- Life Is Beautiful – because it’s a celebration of life, humanity and a rollercoaster of emotions. Right from my first viewing, I knew I would watch it again and again. More than 20 years later, no other film has moved me in quite the same way, and I doubt any other ever will.
- House of Flying Daggers – for the celebrated director Zhang Yimou’s truly absurd but beautifully choreographed martial arts fight sequences, and amazing use of colour in his cinematography.
- John Wick – for the brilliant casting of Keanu Reeves and the truly ridiculous rate at which bullets are unleashed in every direction.
- Schindler’s List – for Steven Spielberg’s harrowing portrayal of perhaps the worst atrocity in human history.
- The Big Lebowski – a masterclass in sophisticated comedy by the Coen brothers.
- Fargo – what can I say? I love Joel and Ethan Coen.
- The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly – there has to be at least one Western on everyone’s film list.
- Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2 – because Uma Thurman and Quentin Tarantino. And a woman kicking serious ass.
- Alien – because I love science, even if fictional, and it made space alluring and terrifying at the same time. Also, the special effects at the time made Star Wars look positively primitive. And a woman kicking serious ass.
- Jersey Boys – because I’m a sucker for films about music and musicians.
Alien, yes! Sigorney Weaver one of my favorite actors and directed by Ridley Scott. This movie has so much atmosphere, and ranks as one of my favorites as well.

Yeah. Sigourney Weaver was brilliant.

Aliens wasn’t too bad, and Cameron is a top rate director, but after that, from my perspective, the franchise went downhill somewhat.

Some say that the sequel was better, but I still prefer the original.
The new TV series on Disney +, Aliens is superb though.

In no particular order a list, that might be different if you asked me tomorrow:
1. Kingdom of Heaven. The long version. The theatrical short version was crap, with the characters left without motives and the exellent skills of the leading character unexplained.
2. Aliens. Sigourney Weaver rocks.
3. The Seven Samurai. A desperate fight against impossible odds for a just cause.
4. The Rising. How greed may have very serious reprecussions.
5. Appaloosa. Possibly one of the most plausible Western movies ever.
6. Untergang. The inevitable downfall of Fascism.
7. Predator 2. Danny Glover IS the lion!
8. The siege. How terrorism reaches it’s goal if we in fear of it abandon human rights.
9. Robocop. How corporate Capitalism has only one goal.
10. Life of Brian. Monty Python at it’s best.
