Hypocrisy is the mother of all evil and racial prejudice is still her favourite child.
–Don King
If it were possible for a country to set a standard for being hypocritical, Israel would not only lead the pack, it would set a bar that only the increasingly unhinged America could hurdle.
Remember the 1950s and 1960s, when the former Soviet Union led the world in the pursuit of pure evil. That was not really true, of course, but America claimed it was, and we were expected to believe it. Because, you know, America was the world’s morality police, and with the help of Hollywood, naturally, really good at creating self-aggrandising narratives that masked its imperialist intentions.
Then, with the collapse of the Soviet Union and the supposed communist threat, America needed a new bogeyman to continue its gaslighting. China obliged by flexing its economic muscle. And wala! America had found its new bogeyman.
Meanwhile, Israel, the growing pimple on the arse of imperialism was quietly getting on with the thankless job of ethnically cleansing the Palestinians. Only a handful of European countries, spearheaded by the United States, seemed to show any appreciation by providing most of the military funding, political cover, and the crucial vetos at the UN Security Council.
This was sufficient, though, for Israel to start flexing its own muscles in the Middle East. Israel’s long-term settler colonial project gained impetus and an audaciousness that will probably never be replicated again in the history of rogue nations. The arse-pimple has grown into a minor superpower, with an arrogance the United States can only envy… and continue to apologize for as long as the “donations” to its politicians flow ever freely.
But what gives Israel its superpower? Is it the nuclear arsenal they have that conveniently nobody dares challenge? Is it the technological superiority of their military capability? Or is it their outstanding prowess in propaganda, backed by MOSSAD, their feared intelligence agency, which is second only to that of the United States?
No! Israel’s superpower is its egregious hypocrisy that has neither bounds nor piffling humanitarian restrictions. It is a trait that has never become more transparent than in the last 20 months or so. In fact, evidence abounds that Israel has scant regard for any red lines.
Israel, hypocrisy be thy name!
Here is a country involved in a 76-year ethnic cleansing and, for the last 20 months, a genocide. Yet they continue to milk the victim status resulting from the genocide enacted on them by Germany during WW2. While only a minority of right-wing nutjobs deny their victimhood, the majority of the world still has much sympathy for their great suffering. It, however, in no way, shape or form accords them any right to perpetrate the same vile atrocity on others.
Any form of retribution, while questionable in of itself, should never have been permitted to be exacted on an entirely different nation that was, in fact, very generous and accommodating by allowing the mass migration of Zionist Jews to Palestine before the 1948 Nakba.
Since the Hamas attacks of October 7th, 2023, Israel has pleaded that it has the right to defend itself. That right should have expired on October 7th, 2023, or a day or so later, at a stretch. Instead, what followed was a clear act of spiteful, depraved vengeance, which remains ongoing 20 months later. In fact, practically every humanitarian organisation and expert on the subject are calling it a genocide.
Concurrently, Israel has carried out unprovoked military attacks on Lebanon, Syria, Iran and Yemen. While it still maintains its right to defence, it does not confer that same right to the countries it bombs indiscriminately. We are expected to accept that the right to defence belongs solely to Israel.
To justify their vile military aggression in Gaza, practically every Israeli minister, spokesperson, ambassador, and apologist, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has repeatedly used the following absurd defence with reference to threats made by various Hamas officials :
When someone says they want to kill you, believe them.
Attributed to Elie Wiesel, a holocaust survivor, the phrase is used disingenuously by Israeli officials and their apologists as a pretext to kill indiscriminately and/or strike first before an expected attack. It was often used to launch attacks on Hamas and Israel’s neighbours. However, when challenged on the violent rhetoric used by both Netanyahu and his deranged right-wing cabinet ministers to incite war crimes, we are not expected to take them seriously. It’s a case of believing what they tell you about killing us, but don’t believe what we tell you about killing them.
Late last week, Israel again launched unprovoked military attacks on Iran. The pretext this time was to prevent Iran from manufacturing nuclear weapons, which we were told was merely weeks away from successful completion. Unfortunately for Netanyahu, we have video evidence of him repeatedly warning us that Iran was weeks and months away from making a nuclear device for the last 33 years, starting in 1992.
You could be forgiven for thinking that Netanyahu’s passionate pleading to end Iran’s nuclear threat had anything to do with the humanitarian need to reduce the threat of nuclear war. It is nothing of the sort. Israel has a secret atomic weapons capability of its own that not even the belligerent United States, which makes a great show of policing, dares to mention or question.
Prime Minister Netanyahu has been trying for three decades to drag an American president into war with Iran. He has failed consistently and for good reason. The American intelligence agency is not convinced that Iran “has not mastered all of the necessary technologies for building such weapons.” However, he may just finally be in luck.
At last, there is someone with the mental acuity of a three-year-old who loves nothing better than listening to the peurile nonsense that escapes through his own lips. Americans loved him so much that they elected him to the Presidency. He may just be the man to make Netanyahu’s wet dreams come true.
Right now, we’re all waiting expectantly for him to get over his immense excitement about the best tapered poles in the country,1 before making a decision about joining all the lunatics in Israel, howling for all-out war with Iran.
