The meltdown after last week’s US election continues unabated. It has kept me wickedly amused the entire week as the recriminations and puerile analysis continued ad nauseam from politicians, pundits, and voters alike.
My amusement turned to glee when I came across the YouTuber below. It was probably one of the best responses to all the gnashing of teeth, and it left me in stitches. As an added bonus, it also reminded me of something I had meant to explore further.
While Hollywood celebrities are believed to be able to influence elections, the industry itself is involved in so much more maliciousness. The celebrated entertainment provider may, in fact, be a more sinister organization.
I’d heard that Hollywood is an unofficial propaganda arm of the US government, principally the military-industrial complex, which has become an integral component of American foreign policy. However, I didn’t take any of the allegations about Hollywood seriously until late last year.
Hollywood has been selling American exceptionalism for many decades. Most film productions portray America and Americans as the best at everything.
We’re constantly reminded that Americans are the most generous, empathetic, kind, and caring people and nation on earth. They are always getting the world out of one type of trouble or another.
They’re always fighting evil aliens from outer space and baddies in the Middle East, Russia, the jungles of Southeast Asia, Central America, and wherever baddies come from. The baddies in America, however, are just misguided and soon set on the correct path by the good guys, of which there is an abundance.
They know how to deal with every imaginable rogue organization around the world. Hell, they created and labeled most of them, so why not?
Hollywood also glorifies and sells wars. It glorifies and sells the weapons. It glorifies and sells the incessant fighting. It glorifies and sells violence and death. It sells heroes and egos.
American presidents always seem to get hands-on when dealing with hurricanes and aliens. They’re always heroic and have hearts of gold. They always seem to have the necessary combat skills. They always have a great motivational speech on hand to calm the masses.
Corruption is rooted out and eliminated forthwith. Crooked politicians resign when confronted… or fall on their swords. The media are incorruptible. They’re the guardians of ethics and morality.
Except it’s all primarily total bullshit. It’s all mainly lies and propaganda.
However, a willing public at home is conditioned to worship the endless stream of celebrities created and churned out by the Hollywood fantasy mill. While celebrity worship is a kind of drug. Meanwhile, ordinary Americans seem overly keen to become celebrities in their own right… even for a minute or less. Some will go to insane lengths to get their few seconds of fame.
But the stars are losing their shine. I, for one, am not buying the crap they’re selling any longer.
