Remember when the Soviet Union was the biggest threat to world peace? Remember when the Western world lost its collective minds over the evil commies who were supposed to be hiding under beds and other nooks and crannies, waiting to pounce on the unsuspecting paragons of Democracy?
Fortunately communism, otherwise known as the Great Red Scare, does not inspire the fear it once did. We now understand the Soviet era excesses without the constant intrusion of hyperbole and fear mongering. Today, China which is the largest communist country still in existence, is not feared by the US for its political ideology, but for its economic might.
Remember the time in American history when people were persecuted and imprisoned on suspicion of having Communist affiliations? The McCarthyists have thankfully been silenced, but a new kind of witch hunt has emerged, with students protesting the genocide of Palestinians being accused and hounded for antisemitism by Zionist apologists.
Democracy, meanwhile, is clearly being manipulated by the rich and powerful to entrench both their wealth and influence. Ordinary people, the victims of this cruel and corrupt enterprise, are increasingly being stripped of their basic freedoms but are often oblivious to their own government’s complicity.
Western imperialism appears to have displaced communism as the most pressing existential threat to those parts of the world that don’t enjoy America’s benevolence in return for being servile partners. Indeed, communism does not make headlines any longer, but imperialism and colonialism does, ever more frequently.
Led by the USA, the global West will, of course, not admit their cruel hegemonic effect on the rest of the world. Why would they when the economic rewards to them are so obscenely immense? They hold all the cards, or so they believe.
The US mainly, diverts their citizens’ tax dollars in not only arming their own country to the hilt, but also funding and arming vassal proxy states such as Israel and Ukraine to conduct endless, destructive, yet unwinnable wars on their behalf. These wars serve no purpose to humanity except to entrench imperialism and assert Western dominance on the world at large.
They also frequently lie about it to their own citizens while gaslighting the rest of the world.
Gaslighting has become their standard public relations strategy. The US administration, in particular, must surely believe that the rest of the world are as gullible as the voters who keep them in power by perpetually voting along the same tired lines, in the same corrupt electoral system.
In recent years, America’s brutality, economic terrorism and hypocritical stance on human rights have become increasingly exposed. Their diplomatic and military support for Israel in the genocide in Gaza has probably done the most to lift the veil on America’s true disposition, which some have described as pure evil.
Last month, the International Criminal Court (ICC) requested arrest warrants be issued for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (who is being called Crime Minister by his own protesting citizens) and his defense chief for war crimes committed in Gaza. The court’s judges have yet to rule on the request, but the American intimidation machine is starting to whir furiously.
Yesterday Democrats joined Republicans in the US House of Representatives to pass legislation that would impose sanctions on the ICC. This dystopian action clearly demonstrates how little respect the US has for international law. Their recent objections to the rulings made the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the case brought by South Africa against Israel, further emphasizes that America believes there should be one set of laws for them and another for the rest of the world.
It’s high time for the world, the part that is not in servitude to the US, to gather forces and fight this inhumane scourge in whatever peaceful manner available to them. Mercifully there are signs that efforts in this regard are starting to gain momentum. However, I believe that our best hope comes from within the US, with students especially. Is it any wonder that the US administration is clamping down on social media like TikTok favored by them.
The signs that those in power are running scared are beginning to manifest. It’s only a matter of time before this corrupt house of cards tumbles.
