I absolutely love music and a few years ago, I became interested in the audiophile world. It seemed like a natural progression from casual listening to really appreciating the multi-faceted nuances of a recorded music track.
It’s a very expensive hobby though, especially here in South Africa. The cost of two-channel or stereo equipment will bring tears to your eyes. However, once you hear how good music can sound on proper equipment and in a treated environment, usually a dedicated listening room, those tears will turn to joy. I have been told that it’s not necessary to take it to those levels to truly enjoy music, but I am hooked. I am aware that it may be considered an elitist hobby, but the pleasure it brings is worth every penny. I wonder if this makes me a bit of a music snob?
In any event, one of the other benefits of becoming an audiophile is constantly discovering new music. Finding new artists and even genres I would previously scoff at, is all part of the adventure. [Which kinda reminds me that REM’s tenth studio album, New Adventures in HiFi is one of my favorites]1
Consequently, I’m starting a new series of posts which will appear monthly here. I will post a report from Tidal of my listening adventures for the previous month. Hopefully, it will introduce some familiar artists to you, but more importantly, some new ones. So here goes…
