New year, new beginnings
I retired early at the age of 57, after having worked for a large telecoms company for 36 years. Being a project manager on large capital network infrastructure build programs was mostly interesting and stimulating, until the last few years when “slaving for the corporate machine” and the whole capitalist culture started to lose its appeal, and work became a bothersome chore.
A whole 10 months has gone by doing basically nothing except some local travel, buying and testing new audio equipment (audiophile wannabe in the house), and contemplating renewing my passion for writing about stuff going on in the world. I have no illusions about writing Pulitzer winning content, or even creating an entirely new or earth-shattering opinion on anything. There are many accomplished writers out there who do just that regularly. I just want to write from the perspective of an ordinary human(ist) being, about my observations on worldly matters.
I’m well aware that many young people are not into reading that much any more. Unfortunately I don’t have the charisma or skill required to make video content which seems to be the medium of choice these days. But an old fool can still hope.
And so here we are. A new year, a new start, something to keep me busy in retirement and maybe raise a few eyebrows.
Until my first proper piece of writing tomorrow…
Nice to meet you, Lenny. And deep thanks for the honesty and passion you’re investing in this site. (from a sincere follower)
